SportsEngine Registration: Lake Park Baseball - Duluth, MN

2024 Summer Baseball Registration - Lake Park

Welcome

2024 Player Registration (PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE MOVED SOME DIVISIONS TO A WAITLIST)

Little Boppers Wiffle Ball: Intro to Baseball/Rookies (Registration remains open)- We revamped our rookie program to best serve the needs of our youngest players. We have moved to a model that will combine basic skill introduction and fun wiffle ball games. Each session will begin with throwing, hitting, and fielding mechanics using wiffle balls, tennis balls and soft baseballs. Then, players and coaches will participate in a fun, fast-paced and competitive wiffle ball game. This will be an opportunity for kids to learn the basic rules of baseball while having fun smashing whiffle balls and running the bases. Kids will need to have their own baseball glove but a wiffle ball bat will be provided to each player! Tentative game nights will be Mondays and/or Wednesdays beginning June 3rd.

Instructional Minors: Coach Pitch (Waitlist: please email lakeparkbaseball@gmail.com with your intention to play before registering)This level is when kids move to a regular sized field, use typical baseball equipment and play by modified baseball rules. Sessions are divided into a team practice (where basic skills of throwing, hitting and fielding are stressed) and a game against an opposing team. Game play involves the coach pitching to players from one knee from about 25 to 30 feet away. Players will be required to have their own batting helmet, bat and a glove at this level. Game nights will be Tuesdays and Thursdays starting May 7th.

Minors: Player Pitch (Waitlist: please email lakeparkbaseball@gmail.com with your intention to play before registering)This is when baseball really starts looking like baseball! Kids will now be pitching to hitters, players will be allowed to steal bases, standings will be kept and the league playoffs will take place at the end of the season. Individual skills are still stressed during practice time but there is more incorporation of team concepts and situational play. Game nights will be Tuesdays and Thursdays starting May 7th, with Sundays being a makeup day and optional practice day based on coach discretion.

Volunteer Hour Requirement
Lake Park is a 100% volunteer run organization and we need help from all families to make it go. There are many places throughout the year to help including but not limited to serving on the Lake Park Board, serving on a planning committee, coaching a team, managing a team, field work days, concession stand and the Art Von Tournament.

*Although we do not collect volunteer deposits for our youngest level, the expectation is that parents volunteer to coach. There can never be enough help! And since our focus is fun with very basic levels of instruction, anyone can help make that experience great for kids!

At the time of registration, each participant will be asked what their intentions will be with volunteering this year. If you do not intend to volunteer, you will have the option of paying the $200 deposit up front. If you intend to volunteer, you'll be providing a volunteer check to Lake Park representatives at the time of jersey distribution. That check will be shredded at the conclusion of the season if the 8 hours have been met. If a family does not fulfill their volunteer hours, the check will be cashed.

Schedule

The general schedule will be posted shortly on the Lake Park homepage but here is the tentative plan:

Monday: Duluth 709 Majors and Modified Level (Fields A-E) + Little Boppers Whiffle Ball (Art Von Field)
Tuesday: Instructional Minors and Minors (Fields A-E)
Wednesday: Duluth 709 Major and Modified Level (Fields A-E) + Little Boppers Whiffle Ball (Art Von Field)
Thursday: Instructional Minors and Minors (Field A-E)

Many factors play into the schedule due to registration numbers and weather. This is just a general idea of the commitments, specifics will be posted in April. The official season for IM, Minors, Majors starts around the beginning of May depending on the field conditions and ends around July 31st. Boppers start around June 1st.

For the minors division, as the season goes on, weather may create the need for some make up games to be played on Sundays.  Additionally, individual teams may want to schedule additional practices.

2024 Bat Rules

Lake Park will be following Gopher State/MYAS bat rules. This allows for the use of USSSA 1.15, USA and Wood Bats to be used as part of regularly game play.
